Hormones are chemical messengers for the body and are crucial for normal bodily functions. Some of the body functions that hormones affect are:
- Growth and development
- Sexual function
So what happens when a woman has a hormonal imbalance?
Some hormonal shifts such as those experienced during pregnancy. Menopause and menstruation are normal and during these periods a woman may experience bloating, weight gain, mood swings, night sweats and reduced sex drive. Some women experience hormonal migraines every month either just before or during menstruation. These are common symptoms of normal hormonal shifts. Hormonal lower back pain, hormonal migraines, and breast tenderness are all common during or just prior to menstruation.
Symptoms of hormonal imbalance on the other hand include:
- Fatigue – a lack of progesterone and low thyroid hormone levels can lead to increased ongoing fatigue
- Bloating, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, vomiting and nausea can be a symptom of oestrogen and progesterone imbalance.
- Muscles aches, tenderness and stiffness
- Pain, stiffness and swelling in the joints
- Heightened cortisol levels
- Mood swings, irritability, low sex drive
- Brain fog
- Appetite fluctuations
- Vaginal dryness
- Night sweating
- Calcium deficiencies
- Unstable blood sugar levels

Massage can lift mood, relieve aches and pains, assist with circulation and aid digestion, Massage can also assist with improving sleep patterns. Improved mood and decreased fatigue levels can improve sex drive.
Chiropractic treatment promotes whole-body wellness. When the brain isn’t able to get signals to the parts of the body that control hormones, imbalances can occur. Chiropractic treatment is focused on aiding the health of the nervous system which can then help address hormone imbalance.
